Built Through Experience. Driven by Craft.
Our Story
Crafted Surfaces was founded on the belief that exceptional interiors come from disciplined craftsmanship, thoughtful material selection, and careful execution. Based in Columbus, Ohio, the company specializes in custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, interior finishes, residential and commercial remodeling.
Our work is built on a hands-on understanding of construction developed through years of experience across multiple trades and project types. From detailed custom cabinetry to full interior renovations, every project is approached with the same focus on organization, precision, and long-term durability.
At Crafted Surfaces, we believe the difference between a good project and a great one lies in the details—how materials are selected, how spaces are planned, and how each stage of the work is executed. Our goal is to deliver interiors that are not only well-built and functional, but refined, durable, and thoughtfully crafted.
Matt Young
Founder | General Contractor
Matt Young is the founder and owner of Crafted Surfaces LLC, a Columbus, Ohio–based builder specializing in custom cabinetry, architectural millwork, interior finishes, and residential and commercial remodeling.
Matt’s career has been defined by a commitment to mastering the disciplines he pursues. He began his professional life in the culinary industry, spending more than a decade working his way through every position in the kitchen—from dishwasher to line cook, front-of-house service, management, sous chef, chef, and ultimately executive chef. That progression built the foundation of his professional approach: discipline, organization, product knowledge, and an uncompromising attention to detail.
While working at the executive chef level, Matt was presented with an opportunity to step into a sous chef role at one of downtown Columbus’s most prominent and high-volume restaurants. Instead of continuing along the traditional culinary path, he made the deliberate decision to pursue a long-term career in the building trades and began investing in the knowledge and experience required to do it well.
To develop a deep understanding of buildings and construction, Matt took a role in maintenance at a 15-story, 1,000-room hotel, working directly with large-scale building systems and industrial facility operations. From there, he continued expanding his hands-on experience across multiple areas of construction—working as a handyman, building custom furniture, and producing cabinetry for multiple kitchens and bathrooms.
He later served as a superintendent in a commercial construction setting, where managing the complexity of a full-scale retail build-out sharpened his ability to coordinate trades, manage schedules, and execute detailed interior work at scale. That commercial experience helped shape the level of organization, precision, and problem-solving he brings to residential and small commercial projects today.
Today, Matt leads Crafted Surfaces with a focus on craftsmanship, thoughtful material selection, and the continual pursuit of mastery in his trade. Drawing from both his hospitality background and his extensive construction experience, he approaches every project with careful execution and a level of detail that reflects the standards of a disciplined craft.
Matt takes pride in having built his career through deliberate learning and hands-on experience, and he now leads Crafted Surfaces with a commitment to professionalism, craftsmanship, and delivering interior spaces clients can truly be proud of.
Dillon Wagoner
Sales Manager | Finishes Specialist
Dillon Wagoner serves as Sales Manager for Crafted Surfaces, where he focuses on client relationships, project coordination, and finish system expertise.
Dillon began his career working in large-scale building maintenance alongside Matt, gaining hands-on experience with the operation and upkeep of complex facilities. That early experience provided a practical understanding of building systems and how interior materials perform over time.
He later transitioned into the coatings industry, managing a Sherwin-Williams store where he developed extensive knowledge of paint systems, surface preparation, and product selection. In that role, he worked closely with contractors and project managers to coordinate materials and solutions for a wide range of residential and commercial projects.
Building on that experience, Dillon moved into sales with a professional painting contractor, where he focused on estimating, client communication, and managing finishing scopes across multiple job sites. His experience on both the supplier and contractor sides of the industry gives him a strong perspective on selecting the right products and coordinating finish work efficiently.
At Crafted Surfaces, Dillon leads sales and client relations, helping guide projects from initial conversations through planning and execution. His background in coatings, materials, and contractor operations helps ensure each project is well-organized and delivered to a high standard.
